An antique Victorian edition of Poems by John G Whittier. Published by Belford, Clarke & Company around 1885 (no date). The cover is a tan or dark yellow cloth with gilded flower decoration and contrasting red color. The decoration is extended to the spine and there is cloth missing and fraying on the upper and lower backstrip. There is a large dark spot on the upper edge of the back covere. The lower cover corners are crushed with under-board exposed. The endpages are decorated in red and blue. The back endpaper is torn at the lower corner. There is a penciled notation in the back on a blank page with an 1886 date. There is no frontispiece. The hinge opposite the title page is fragile. The Table of Contents is pictured. The pages are stiff and heavily tanned throughout. The pages have a Victorian red decorative border throughout. There is darkened gilt on three sides of the foredge. The occasional lower corner of a page is bent. Size: 7 5/8". 319 pages.
