An antique, illustrated edition of Andersen's Fairy Tales. Published by Donohue Henneberry & Co, Chicago around 1890 (no date). Contents include The Little Mermaid with a full page black and white illustration and Wild Swans. There is a beautiful angel illustration in The Story of a Mother (pg 37). The cover is dark chocolate brown with some light red undertones in some lighting. The lower right cover corner is bumped with some under-board exposed. There is discoloration and small cloth tears on the backstrip. The hinges are weak. The rear hinge is pulling away and is nearly detached but holding. This is due to the weight of the number of pages and their size. There is a penciled name(s) on the page opposite the title page. There is some soiling on a few pages such as pages 4-5 in Life of Andersen; page 9; there is a one-inch horizontal tear in the margin on page 77 (Under the Willow Tree). The pages are stiff with moderate toning throughout. 159 pages. Size: 10 1/4 x 8 1/4".
